Schola Ludus is built from real classroom experience — not from theory alone.
The project grows out of long-term involvement in the modernization of education, spanning from the early 1990s to today’s search for meaningful and responsible ways to use artificial intelligence in schools.
Our focus is not technology for its own sake.
Our focus is teachers, their time, their responsibility, and the real conditions of schools.
During 2025, as part of accredited teacher training programmes and courses focused on the use of AI in education, we visited schools across the Czech Republic — from small rural schools to large urban institutions.
The feedback from these visits directly shapes the development of this platform: its language, structure, and practical limits.
Schola Ludus is not a replacement for teachers.
It is a supportive tool designed to help educators:
-
structure ideas and lesson plans,
-
save time,
-
reflect on teaching in a broader context,
-
while keeping full pedagogical responsibility and autonomy.
Who operates the project
The educational and content side of the project is operated by Česká pedagogická komora, a non-profit educational association based in the Czech Republic.
The technical infrastructure and software development are provided by Thowt LLC, a technology company based in the United States.
Information about teacher training programmes and related activities can be found at the association’s main website:

Project author
The concept of Schola Ludus was created by Tomáš Houška.
Since the early 1990s, he has been actively involved in educational innovation, working in mainstream schools as well as in alternative and experimental educational environments. He has served as a school principal, lecturer, and educational consultant, and has long focused on the psychological and social foundations of learning.
He regularly works with teachers through professional development courses and remains in close contact with the everyday realities of schools — which forms the practical foundation of this project.
He is the author and co-author of numerous textbooks and publications on education.
Why Schola Ludus exists
Education is changing.
Technology is changing.
Responsibility remains with people.
Schola Ludus is an attempt to connect pedagogical experience, modern tools, and human judgement — without simplifying the complexity of teaching and without replacing the role of educators.
